Bremen Recycling Club Group PhotoNovember 15th was America Recycles Day, and the Marshall County Solid Waste Management District celebrated this annual event by engaging with local elementary and high school students in recycling and conservation projects.

Marshall County Solid Waste connects local organizations such as schools and clubs with Green Tree Plastics, LLC, an Evansville, Indiana manufacturer of recycled plastic products. The groups collect plastic caps and lids, which they exchange for recycled plastic benches and other products made from these plastics. Kids do the collecting and sorting, and Marshall County Solid Waste transports their collections of caps and lids to Green Tree. More information on the program can be found at

Sabrina and James Wickens - Bremen Recycling ClubOn America Recycles Day, the District delivered Bremen Elementary School’s first recycled plastic bench, thanks to the efforts of the Bremen Recycling Club. The club is headed by Sabrina Wickens, a Bremen elementary school teacher, with help from her son James, a student at Bremen. The kids were at the loading dock to greet their new bench.

Culver Academies Green Life Club Helps with Tree PlantingA second project for America Recycles Day took place at the Recycle Depot itself. Members of the Culver Academies Green Life Club, along with other adult volunteers, helped plant thirteen Norway Spruce trees on the property. The trees will serve as a much-needed windbreak, as well as providing food and cover for wildlife found on the property.

The Marshall County Solid Waste Management District, home of the Recycle Depot, is located at 1900 Walter Glaub Drive, Plymouth, Indiana. Our mission is to conserve natural resources and preserve the environment, encourage recycling efforts, provide opportunities and guidance for waste stream reduction, and increase awareness of proper hazardous waste disposal.
