NewsMarshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel will be saving money on the food purchases at the Jail now that the County Commissioners have approved a contract with HPS.

The contract will allow the county to continue purchasing the majority of their food items through Gordon’s Food Service but now at a discounted price through HPS.

An analysis of the jail’s purchasing habits showed a savings of nearly $6,000.   The annual membership cost to join HPS is $700.

The commissioners also approved the purchase of a new black and white copier scanner and a color copier for County Surveyor Larry Fisher.

Fisher presented the commissioners with three quotes during Monday’s meeting and told them the sales rep said it was cheaper than purchasing one that would do it all.  He said it was cheaper by almost $5,000.

Two quotes were nearly equal; Priority Engineering’s quote was $15,550 for the two pieces of equipment while Triangle Drafting presented a quote of $15,810.  The third quote for a Cannon was less but the machine didn’t have a hard drive in it so it was a lesser machine.

Fisher’s recommendation was the quote from Triangle Drafting because of the past working relationship and the company is closer, being located in South Bend will Priority Engineering is in Fort Wayne.

The County Council approved an additional appropriation at their meeting last week.  During budget hearings Fisher was asked to remove the copier from the 2017 budget and purchase it yet this year.

The Commissioners also approved the copier purchase request of Superior Court 1.   Adam’s Remco was the middle bidder at $7,254.  Their bid includes the maintenance cost so the savings could be much greater since the other two determine the maintenance cost on a price per sheet.

The commissioners approved the Adam’s Remco bid noting maintenance is included and there is a local sales rep.
