blessing-animalsFather Tom Haynes of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church at 400 North Center Street in Plymouth will be blessing our furry friends to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis, patron saint of animals.

Everyone is encouraged to bring your pets—as well as your friends and their pets! Participants will gather in the courtyard at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 2.

Father Tom explained that in the scriptures, the act of blessing is mediating that power from God or Christ to the animal involved. To bless is more than an expression of goodwill and caring. To bless is to impart God’s power in person!

The blessing of each animal, by name, means that health, healing and life are being mediated from God for the benefit of the animal in its relationship with its human partners.
