Emory Smith National Meret Scholarship Semifilanist

Plymouth High School is proud to announce that Emory Smith, a PHS senior, has been named a semifinalist in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Students chosen as a semifinalist will continue in the program competing for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth in total of close to $33 million dollars.

The National Merit Scholarships will be offered to the finalists in the spring. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

Students qualify by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Over 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools across the country entered this competition.

The last PHS student named as a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist was John Stillson in 2014. Stillson, went on to be one of the 7,500 students who received a National Merit Scholarship his senior year.

PHS wants to congratulate Emory on this wonderful achievement and wish her the best as she continues in the competition.

Emory said, “I feel honored and encouraged to have the opportunity to compete in the National Merit Scholarship program.”
