Heminger House 5K 2016Loren Mattern, a junior at Plymouth High School has organized a 5K for Saturday, October 22nd, from 10 am to 1 pm to promote awareness of domestic violence and raise money for the local women and children’s shelter, the Heminger House. The event will kick off at the Hoosier Old Wheels Pavilion in Centennial Park and use the Greenway Trail for the run/walk.

100% of the proceeds from registration, $15 for student and $20 per adult, will go directly to the Heminger House as a monetary donation.   Loren is also organizing a drive at the high school for tangible donations of needed household items.

A Facebook page (5K Run/Walk Against Domestic Abuse) has been created in an attempt of publicizing the event and seeking participants.

Also planned for the 5K on October 22nd is a bake sale, along with an ice cream stand and games.

Mattern said, “October 22nd, I aim to make a difference; whether it’s a small or large one, it makes me equally satisfied because one life changed is an infinite source of opportunity.”
