Junior Achievement logoOn Tuesday, May 10th, Junior Achievement (JA) serving Marshall County will host a JA In A Day experience for the students at Riverside Intermediate located at 905 Baker Street in Plymouth.

Over 22 volunteers from the community, who have been trained to teach the JA curriculum, will enter the school tomorrow morning and teach 5-6 lessons to every student at Riverside.  The curriculum is JA Our Nation for 5th graders and JA Economics for Success for 6th graders.

JA Our Nation covers topics such as our nation’s free market system, the need for innovation, career clusters, how to get and keep a job, and the importance of global connections.

JA Economics for Success provides information about personal finance and the importance of identifying education and career goals based on a student’s skills, interests, and values.

During each session, the students are introduced to a new concept with objectives and vocabulary words, followed by an activity that reinforces what the students were just taught.

“JA in a Day is such a great format for the kids to experience the entire JA grade level curriculum in one morning, turning the half day into an event, immersing the students in the financially based activities,” said Nick Chaney, Junior Achievement Board Chair for Marshall County.

Junior Achievement focuses on teaching students the importance of financial literacy, job readiness and entrepreneurship.  The JA classes are a gift from the business community to the schools and each class is taught by a volunteer who works collaboratively with classroom teachers.

This year over 100 Junior Achievement classes were taught by volunteers in Marshall County throughout the year.  If you are interested in becoming involved with Junior Achievement, please contact Colleen Hahn at colleen.hahn@ja.org or call 574.252.6056.
