Culver Lake MaxIndiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of a fisherman found unresponsive in the water on Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver.  Marshall County Dispatch received a 911 call about a man overboard at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday April 12th.  A construction worker on shore made the 911 call after observing the man overboard.

The fisherman, Richard Corl, age 86, was fishing on Lake Maxinkuckee when, for an unknown reason, he entered the water.  Firefighters Tim McCarthy and Taylor Simpson with Culver Fire Department recovered Corl from the water and got him to an awaiting ambulance on shore.  Culver EMS transported him to Plymouth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Indiana Conservation Officers have preliminarily categorized the death as accidental.  Conservation Officers want to remind everyone to wear a coast guard approved life jacket every time you’re on or near the water.

Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted by Culver Fire Department, Culver EMS, Culver Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Marshall County Central Dispatch and Culver Military Academy.

April 10-16 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation Week.  Without the assistance of the dispatchers at Marshall County Central Dispatch and Conservation Officer’s Central Dispatch, Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS would not have been able to coordinate efforts in a timely manner.
