Bison-tennialIndiana Association of United Ways (IaUW) has been coordinating the Bison-tennial Public Art Project. This legacy project will help celebrate Indiana’s 200th birthday by decorating and displaying 5-foot-tall fiberglass bison with an end goal of at least one – if not a herd – of bison on display in each of Indiana’s 92 counties. The bison are expected to be complete around Memorial Day of 2016, with appearances in the local community and along the Bicentennial Torch Relay route leading up to Indiana’s Bicentennial Statehood Day on December 11, 2016.

Linda Ripey, Executive Director of the Marshall County Museum and Shelley Heiden are fundraising for a Marshall County bison for the “Indiana Bison-tennial Public Art Project.”

A note received last week said that 56 counties have signed up to date and 67 bison will be ordered soon. First deliveries were in Feb and are scheduled through April.

Artistic designs are creative and reflective of local communities. Check out www.indianabisonart.org to map them.

In Marshall County Psi Iota Xi, Theta Delta Chapter in Bremen will be sponsoring a bison for Bremen.

Time is running out to order another bison for Marshall County. If you are interested in supporting this project, please let Shelley Heiden know at sheiden@insightsc.com. Contributions of any size are welcome. Total cost of the project is approximately $2000-2500.
