03/10/14 DONALDSON – Amanda Petrucelli, Assistant to the Dean  at Ancilla College, discussed The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg Tuesday, March 4 at Earthworks Market.

In her presentation, Petrucelli discussed Duhigg’s ideas on how we form habits in our personal lives, our companies, and our societies. The discussion also highlighted how habits can be changed. Duhigg believes that the key to being more productive and successful lies in understanding our habits.

Petrucelli examined the power which changing habits can have on us.  Lively discussion included replacing poor habits by examining why we do them and finding another route to reach the same “reward” the habit offers. For example, one may quit smoking by discovering that the “reward” was actually taking a break and socializing which can be done in a new way without the nicotine.

“Coffee and a Book” is a cultural series co-sponsored by the Ancilla College Humanities Division and Earthworks.

The next Coffee and a Book will be held by Joel Thomas, Assistant Professor of English on April 1.  He will discuss the book Flannery O’Connor: Writing a Theology of Disabled Humanity by Timothy J. Basselin.
