03/07/14 During a meeting on March 4, the Plymouth School Board officially adopted the school calendar for the school year 2014-2015.

The first student day is set for August 13. The adopted calendar contains days off for staff development; August 29, November 7, and January 30.  Vacation days include; Labor Day (September 1), fall break (October 23-24), Thanksgiving break (November 26-28), winter break (December 22-31 and January 1st and 2nd), Martin Luther King Day (January 19), President’s Day (February 16), spring break (March 23-27), Good Friday (April 3), and Memorial Day (May 25).

Grades K-8 will also be out of school on January 5 to provide a teacher preparation day.

Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, and Good Friday could be used for snow makeup days if needed.  Three additional days are marked on the end of the school calendar for snow makeup days as, June 3, 4, and 5.

If the dates set aside for snow makeup days are sufficient, the last student day for grades K-8 for the school year will be June 1.

Students in grades 9-12 will have basically the same calendar with the addition of November 10, March 2, and May 3 as a teacher work days.

The last student day is set for June 2.

Capacity for each grade at the elementary, intermediate and junior high levels was set at 325. Applications from students outside of the Plymouth School district will be considered throughout the entire school year. If there are more approved applications than space available, a lottery will be held. There are no class limits at the high school level.

In other matters, Gloria Burnham, director of food service, informed the Board that the breakfast and lunch prices for school meals will remain the same for 2014-2015. Burnham said they will likely stay with a four-week cycle menu.

The next School Board meeting is scheduled for April 1.
