08/19/13 Last month a grand-opening and ribbon cutting celebration was held at the new Hair Mechanix Salon at 515 Beerenbrook Street.

Co-owners Calvin Bailey and April Staulbaum have created a unique beauty shop in the former JEDI Trucking garage building behind Overmyer Water.  The shop is a throwback to the 50’s with black and white tile flooring, a working antique refrigerator, and an original kitchen sink and cabinet from the era.  Along with the 50’s they have thrown in a mix of auto-shop mechanics.

The stations the beauticians use are actual mechanic tool boxes.  Staulbaum’s pricelist of services also follows the mechanic theme with Head Work meaning a haircut or shampoo, cut and style; Paint Job refers to color, highlights or lowlights and Realignments are perms while Wax On Wax Off is waxing eyebrow, lip or chin waxing.

April Staulbaum grew up in Plymouth, worked at Serendipity Spa prior to working at Body Reflections in Knox.  When the opportunity presented itself to have her own salon April said, “I wanted to be my own boss so I jumped at the opportunity.”

Staulbaum is joined in the salon by Jessica Textor from Culver who received her license in October.  She has worked at Great Clips and Sally Beauty Supply prior to taking a position with Hair Mechanix.

Hair Mechanix is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 5 and Saturdays from 9 to 3.  Appointments are great but the do accept walk-ins too.  To schedule your next hair appointment call 540-6436.
