07/23/13 Monday evening the Board of Public Works and Safety awarded the bid for the Pioneer Drive lift station improvement project.  Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson stated, “The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission agreed to fund the project during their meeting last week.”  He continued, “The recommendation from Commonwealth Engineers is for the low bidder, Haskins Underground from Plymouth.”  The winning bid was $121,125.

Councilman Wayne Smith questioned the project, noting the spread between the low bid and the high bid.  Davidson said he spoke with Haskins Underground who indicated they were quickly running out of work and that this project fell perfectly into their calendar.  He also noted their lower overhead.

Quotes were also opened for an energy improvement project at the cemetery.  The project will replace all lightening fixtures with higher efficiency fixtures.  There was an alternate bid for led lights.  Banner Electric’s quote was $5,850 or $7,475 for the LED while Michiana Contracting quoted $5,265 for the base quote and $7,469 for the LED lights.  The bids were taken under-advisement for review by the energy consultant.
