07/19/13 Ancilla College will join the state’s independent colleges and universities next week to promote and raise awareness of private education in Indiana.

“We may be a small college but Ancilla College is part of Indiana’s educational landscape,” said Eric Wignall, interim executive director of admissions for Ancilla.

“Private colleges have played an outsized role in educating the state’s educators, political leaders and business innovators. Much larger state universities may get more attention, but private colleges like Ancilla are an important alternative for many students. The faculty and staff at Ancilla are justifiably proud to be part of a dynamic and important part of the state’s educational future,” Wignall said.

Governor Pence proclaimed July 22-26 as Indiana Private College Week.  All 31 private, nonprofit colleges and universities across the state are opening their doors to prospective students and their families. The proclamation cites the productivity of Indiana’s independent sector of higher education.

Indiana’s independent colleges enroll 20 percent of the state’s undergraduates and annually produce 35 percent of all bachelor’s degrees in Indiana. According to data from the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) the majority of private college students graduate within four years and begin to contribute immediately to Indiana’s economy. ICI graduates make invaluable contributions to communities throughout the state.

Ancilla is holding an open house, Access Ancilla Day, on Wednesday July 24 starting at noon (EDT). Prospective students and parents are invited to come for lunch, presentations and take a tour of campus. “We welcome any potential student, in high school today or adults who may want to come back to school to complete a degree, to come and see what Ancilla has to offer,” Wignall said.

A complete list of participating campuses, as well as their event schedules, is available atwww.indianacollegechoices.org<http://www.indianacollegechoices.org>.  Many colleges are offering tours and informational sessions. Advance registration is encouraged but not required, other than for those campuses specifically requesting it.

Visitors between the ages of 16 and 20 touring one or more ICI campuses during Private College Week will have the chance to enter a drawing for one of three Amazon Kindles.  Entry forms and rules will be available at each campus.
