01/10/13 During a meeting on Tuesday night, The Plymouth School Board elected officers for 2013. Officers elected by unanimous vote are as follows: President, Todd Samuelson, Vice-President, Larry Holloway, and Secretary, Melissa Christiansen.
Samuelson will also serve as the president of the Finance Board and Christiansen was elected Finance Board Secretary.
Regular meetings of the School Board will continue to be on the first Tuesday of each month.
Among other items, the Board voted to allow Superintendent Daniel Tyree to seek bids for renovation projects. As a result of refinancing of bonds that saved $2,325,847 and reduced payments by approximately $99,000 per year, a construction fund of $1,728,018.50 was made possible.
Tyree explained that renovation projects would be at Lincoln Junior High ($475,000), Plymouth High School ($375,000), Riverside Intermediate ($125,000), Service Center ($400,000), and equipment ($350,000). Projects at both LJH and PHS should start in March of this year and be completed by August and October, respectively.
Work at Riverside could begin as early as June and be finished by August.
The timetable for renovations at the Service Center will include preparations for machines in the spring of 2013 setting of machines in the summer of 2013. By the fall of 2013, plans are to teach vocational classes in the renovated space and finalize additional projects in the building. Renovation could begin as soon as January of 2014.
Presenting on how the spaces at the facilities could be configured were given by Brian Bohlander, Barton Coe & Vilamaa and David Schoof, Director of Maintenance for Plymouth Schools.
Tyree explained that renovations would mean moving the media centers to other locations within the buildings. Tyree said, “There is virtually no research done in the media centers.” Students have been supplied with computers to research.
