The 2012 Season for Plymouth Post 27 baseball started in fine fashion on Saturday afternoon. It was a doubleheader against Highland Post 180 in which Plymouth won the first game 8-1 and winning the second game 5-2.
Game One seen Tippecanoe Valley lefty James Hackworth, for Plymouth, go the distance in 7 innings of work, giving up 1 run on just 3 hits, striking out 11, walking only 1 batter.
“James pitched well in his first outing. We were pleased with his effort. His fastball was moving, his change was keeping Highland hitters off balanced. With the exception of the homerun given up in the 7th inning, “Hack” was outstanding so early in this season”, said Diamond Spyder Head Coach Tony Plothow.
Plymouth’s offense combined for 7 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to put the game away for good against Highland.
Former John Glenn ace, now Manchester College righthander, Sean Liedtky got the win in game two.
“Sean is going to be a “BIG” part of this teams success. If he can keep ahead of hitters with that curveball of his, he becomes tough to hit against.”, added Plothow.
Game two’s offensive star was a Plymouth sophomore, Trent Briles who finished 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s in the ballgame for the Diamond Spyders.
“I really like the “make-up” of this years kids. They seem to have an edge about them that makes this a fun team to coach. So far, team chemistry isn’t an issue, nor do us coaches think it will be. It should be a fun season.”, said Plothow.
