PLYMOUTH, INDIANA – The Ancilla College women’s basketball team dropped their final home game of 2011 to Kankakee Community College 67-52.

Only six games into the season, the Lady Chargers may still be looking for their first win, but they look to be getting closer. After falling behind 15-2 in the first few minutes, the winless Chargers could have easily folded, but to their credit they fought the NJCAA Preseason #10 team to the end. With just six minutes remaining in the game, Ancilla was down by just seven.

“When we got it to seven with six minutes to go,” started Ancilla coach Stephanie Beason, “I thought for sure we were going to close in on them. But we couldn’t get closer than that.”

The visiting Cavaliers outscored Ancilla by eight in the final six minutes to preserve the victory.

Natasha Ware led Ancilla with 11 points and 14 rebounds, increasing her average to eighth in the nation at 12.5 rebounds per game. Katrina Vannoy dropped in 14, while Brene Daily added 10 in the effort.

Ancilla takes three weeks off for finals and Christmas break before returning to action December 29-31 at the Laker Holiday Classic, hosted by Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois. Ancilla will play Shawnee Community College on the 29th at 6:00 p.m., Lake Land on the 30th at 8:00 p.m., and John Wood Community College on the 31st at 1:00 p.m.
