06/07/11 This past weekend the Plymouth Speedway played host to the Lincoln Welders Out of School Night at the Races. It hosted the mini stocks, street stocks, Teacher Credit Union late models, and Dragon Racing Fuels outlaw late models for the event that included an autograph session at intermission.

The night began with qualifying. The fastest lap of the night was set by Bobby Stremme in the outlaw late models with a lap around the 3/8 mile in 13.472 seconds. In the late models John Marshall set the pace for the field with a time of 14.114. In the mini stocks Darrin Harrell set fast time with a lap of 14.887 seconds. In the street stocks Danny Brown was the fastest competitor with a lap of 15.367 seconds.

After opening ceremonies it was time for the heat racing to begin. The outlaw late models watched on as Brian Ross picked up his first win of the season.

In the late models Cory Lindsey got his first ever late model heat win in the first heat. The second eight lap heat went to Ron Maynard Junior.

In the street stocks Jeff Stetler and Davre Long were victorious winning their respected heats. In the mini stocks Dale Oliver Senior and Eric Frazier took the checkered flag around the track after winning their heat events.

After the autograph session at intermission it was time for the feature racing action to begin. The outlaw late models were first out for their feature that had a great battle out front for most of the event. Adam Terry and Brian Ross battled back and forth but Ross was never able to find an opening and had to settle crossing the line second to Terry. Bobby Stremme got a podium finish as he rounded out the top three.

In the late model feature Lindsey broke out to an early lead before being overcome by the faster qualified cars. Nick Pressler was able to make a pass to break out to the lead. He held off all challengers with Ron Maynard Junior finishing second and John Marshall grabbing the third spot.

In the street stock feature the race started out with a nervous moment going into turmn one on the first lap and the racing never cooled down. For most of the event you could throw a blanket over the top six cars as they battled side by side and nose to tail. When the checkered flag fell over the field Dave Long was in the first position with Kevin Gunkel in second. Chuck Maggio held on for a strong finish as he rounded out the podium.

The mini stocks ran a big race with Darrin Harrell slicing quickly through the field to ride a rail around the track and cruise to a sound win. He was followed by Michael Mast and Jim Newman in third.

This weekend the Plymouth Speedway will host the only appearence of the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series in the 2011 season. The late models and front wheel drives will also be on hand for the event. The racing action will begin at eight o’clock. For more information visit www.plymouthspeedway.net.
