01/04/11 Jerry Greeson, newly elected Union Township Trustee has taken over the helm of the job formerly held by Marlene Mahler.  The new trustee’s office will be located at 300 West Jefferson Street in Culver.

The Union Township Trustee’s Office will be open Tuesday and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.  Citizens may also contact Greeson by calling 574-842-2722.

The main work of area trustees is poor relief.  In Union Township that takes on many faces from coordinating Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets by working with area schools and organizations.  Many times people come to the trustee for financial aid to pay rent, utilities or sometimes even medications.

The various trustees in Marshall County also care for the many cemeteries located in their particular townships.  A portion of the annual budget is set aside for fire service.  In Union Township funds go toward the Culver-Union Township’s fire department and EMS service.  They also help with Culver’s Town Park, the local VFW for flags for public places, REAL Meals for older adults and other local needs.

The trustees in the county are directed by the various advisory boards in each township.
