12/13/10 The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has every available snow plow on the roads. Crews have been working 12-hour shifts around the clock since the winter event began.

Monday morning, the worst hit areas were LaPorte and Porter Counties. The high winds are blowing east west roads shut as quickly as INDOT crews can plow them. The following roads are extremely dangerous right now – State Road 8 in Porter County, State Road 2 in Porter County, U.S. 421 north of U.S. 30, U.S. 6 in Porter County and in LaPorte County, I-94 is down to two lanes. There is also an accident south of Crown Point on I-65 at the 227 mile marker that is blocking the left lane.

Indiana State Police report that Porter and Newton counties have declared a state of emergency. Lake County has an emergency plan in place. Conditions are hazardous and motorists are asked to stay off the roads in those areas unless it’s an emergency.

INDOT crews have been working around the clock and will continue to do so until the storm has passed and all the roads are safe to drive on.
