06/21/12  After a lengthy hiring process, Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller recommended the Board of Public Works and Safety offer conditional employment to two candidates during Monday’s meeting.

The Board approved the recommendation of Zack Marquardt as a full-time firefighter/EMT and Nick Allen as full-time firefighter/ Paramedic with the department pending approval of the state pension board and physicals.

Chief Miller also presented his May Activity Report.  His department received a total of 198 calls last month.  161 were for emergency medical service incidents and 13 for medial assists. There were 5 false alarms and 4 times last month emergency responders were cancelled while in-route.  Emergency calls included 3 people in distress, two each for natural vegetation fires, public service assistance calls, system malfunctions and structure fires.  The fire department also responded once in May to a flammable spill or leak, an outside rubbish fire, an unintentional system operation with no fire, and one rescue call.

Looking at the May incidents by district showed crews responding to Bourbon once, 139 times in Plymouth, 24 Center Township and 24 in West Township.  Paramedics assisted Argos 1 time in May, Culver 2 times, LaPaz/Lakeville twice and Walkerton 5 times.
