The safety of students and staff of the Plymouth Schools continues to be of paramount importance to the administrators and school board.
At the regularly scheduled school board meeting on September 2, Safety Committee Chair Michele Riise shared the latest adopted safety measure. Riise said, “Each classroom now has a “red safety bag”. The bags are place in classrooms so as to be accessed readily in the case of an emergency. Items in the bags include a first aide kit and signage to be displayed in the event of an evacuation.
School nurses have a similar bag that contains additional emergency items, according to Riise.
The red bag will be unitized during all drills throughout the school year, according to Riise.
Riise said the committee discussed procedures for usage during a current administrative meeting.
The prior committee chair was Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff, who had been an assistant principal at Plymouth High School. Since Ratliff left the corporation, the position was given to Riise who was already on the committee. Other committee members include: Principals Angie Mills, Donna Burroughs, and Andy Hartley; Assistant Superintendent Rodger Smith; School Board representative Larry Holloway; Plymouth Fire Chief Andy Metzger; a Plymouth Police Department Representative; Gibson Insurance Consultant Art Jacobs; Plymouth Schools Maintenance Director David Schoof and Athletic Director Roy Benge.
