In observance of National Assisted Living Week, September 11 – 17, Miller’s Senior Living Community will host a series of events developed as a special opportunity to bring together the residents, families, employees, volunteers and the surrounding community to celebrate “Living Life”.
“Living Life”, this year’s theme, means enjoying activities and pursuing passions, whatever they may be. “Living Life is a lifelong pursuit of happiness and growth,” said Tracie Sroka, Resident Service Director of Miller’s Senior Living Community. “These activities demonstrate the commitment of assisted living professionals providing care and services to residents that respect their dignity and enhance their quality of life.”
The week’s events will begin on Saturday September 11th at 2:30 p.m. with “A Tribute to Patsy Cline” by former Plymouth resident Maggie Kubley. Kubley is the daughter of Jon and Mary Kubely of Plymouth and the granddaughter of Miller’s resident, Katie Kubley.
As a seasoned actor, writer, singer, instrumentalist and performer, Kubley’s first solo performance was in the Webster Elementary talent show in 1992 where she
played “The Yellow Rose of Texas” on the piano. From there she moved on to perform at both Lincoln Jr. High School and Plymouth High School before eventually earning her
BA in Theatre from Ball State University. After graduating, Maggie moved to Chicago where she now performs at venues throughout the city with her theatrical pop band, The Embraceables. The Embraceables recently returned from a tour to New York City, where they were met with praise. They will soon be working on their sophomore album.
Maggie’s love for music was born out of a family who also loves music. She came to adore the vocal stylings and songs of Patsy Cline through her grandmother, Katie
played Patsy Cline for the young Maggie at night before she fell asleep. Ever since Maggie has been an avid fan of Patsy Cline and has added her most cherished songs to her repertoire.
The week’s special events continue with:
“National Assisted Living Week Proclamation” by Mayor Mark Senter and outdoor picnic, Sunday, Sept. 12 at 5:00 p.m. followed by an Outdoor Community Concert by the Marshall County Church Orchestra and Argos Walnut Church of the Brethren Choir Sunday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs.
“I’ve Got A Secret” with local guest panelists; Monday, Sept. 13 at 7:00 p.m. Guest Panelists include: Rosie Regedanz, Jim Campbell, Randy Danielson, Chris Emerick, and Gina Young.
Ed and Annette’s Monkeys and More from Chicago; Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Bring the kids.
The Sentimental Journeys (big band music) of Bourbon, Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
Spa Day featuring manicures, pedicures, neck massages, facials and more on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 10:00 a.m. – noon and 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Mike Lintner, local country singer; Friday, Sept. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
Classic Car Cruise-In with D.J. Quentin Flagg; Friday, Sept 17 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Hot dogs, chips and beverages served.
These events are free and open to the public. National Assisted Living Week is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Center for Assisted Living, Washington, D.C. and Miller’s Senior Living Community is a 52-unit assisted living community located at 625 W.
