03/10/10 An Argos woman died in a holding cell in the Saint Joseph County Jail Tuesday morning.

Police identified the woman as 23 year old Stephanie Braasch.

An autopsy is being performed on Braasch to determine the cause of her death, said a spokesman for St. Joseph County police.

Braasch was booked into the jail about 11:45 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of a felony drug offense.

About 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, jail workers found Braasch unresponsive in her holding cell after trying to deliver her lunch tray.

They administered CPR until South Bend paramedics arrived, but all attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Braasch was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m. by paramedics.

The woman had not been formally charged at the time of her death.

Braasch had never been booked in the St. Joseph County Jail before Sunday, according to jail records although she was booked into the Marshall County Jail four times.

The Saint Joseph Metro Homicide Unit is investigating Braasch's death, which is standard procedure.
