03/10/10 Members of the Plymouth Aviation Board discussed options on handling the utility costs for renter, Light Sport Repair.
For several months Board Member Phil Bockman has been looking into a way to have Light Sport Repair pay their fair share of the utility costs for the office and hanger space they use.
On Tuesday evening Bockman offered a couple of options. The first was to install separate meters but cost was estimated to run as high as $20,000. The second option was to account for the total square footage of the space used by the various entities including the City, Girl Scouts and Light Sport and calculate a percentage or price per square foot. Bockman said this would require the City to send a fluctuating bill each month. The final option would be to look at the average billing over the past couple of years and find the average cost and set a constant monthly number that would be added to the lease.
The board did not take action and will consider the options presented.
Engineering Consultant Chris Snyder told the Aviation Board he had submitted the benefit cost analysis for an AWAS (Automated Weather Advisory System) at the airport. The FAA has requested additional benefits and needs for the system. Board members discussed IFR (Instrument Flight Rules), a possible lower local minimum, and the next closest AWAS would be Warsaw, South Bend, Knox or Rochester…along with significant weather changes between those locations and Plymouth.
Snyder said he would follow-up with the FAA on their input.
