03/10/10 The possibility of purchasing land was part of the discussion at Tuesday night’s Board of Aviation Commissioners.

Engineering Consultant, Chris Snyder from Woolpert told members of the Aviation Board that the Neidig property on North Michigan Road could be eligible for federal reimbursement if they follow the proper procedures.

Snyder said, “As you go forward with you land acquisition I want you to be informed on the process.”  He then handed each member a packet of information including identifying an appraiser qualified to work on the project.  He also mentioned there were a few appraisers locally that should qualify.

Snyder explained that the land acquisition could take up to 180 day if things went smoothly or longer if negotiations were needed.  He also informed the board on their responsibility for fund the project.  Snyder said, “All costs are upfront, on your own dime and then the reimbursement would be completed.”  He also said the appraisal and re-appraisal costs could be covered along with any environmental review.

As for the possibility of placing a fire training tower on the airport property, Snyder said, “This project would have significant hurtles to cover that could take one to two years.”  The FAA looked at the proposed plan and has basically put a halt to it.
